PCCI Targets Sand Removal On Main Streets

MONROVIA: Efforts to improve sanitation and keep public spaces clean continue under the Government of Liberia’s Presidential Clean Cities Initiative (PCCI), with sand-removal activities in the main streets including Sinkor, helping to improve conditions in the various communities.

The PCCI program championed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, seeks to improve urban sanitation, promote environmental awareness, and create short-term employment opportunities for young Liberians.

Launched in October, the first phase covers two populated cities; Monrovia and Paynesville, among other targeted cities across the country. The programmer engages young people and community-based organizations in sanitation work, community mobilization, and public awareness campaigns.

The sand-removal activity in Sinkor reflects the importance of maintaining clean and accessible public spaces as part of broader sanitation efforts. Such activities, when properly coordinated with municipal authorities, can help improve the appearance and usability of public areas.

The initiative also emphasizes community participation and responsible waste management. Residents are encouraged to co-operate with sanitation teams and take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.

Maintaining clean communities, however, requires collective action. Government interventions must be supported by residents, businesses, and community organizations to ensure that improvements are sustained.
