Fuel Prices Under Watch -LiSA Tightens Measurement Checks

By: Elbie Pannoh

MONROVIA: The Liberia Standards Authority (LiSA) is intensifying monitoring of fuel dispensing stations, urging consumers to pay close attention to the quantity of gasoline they receive as petroleum prices continue to rise.
LiSA Deputy Director for Technical Services, Koakum Emmanuel Myers, said, the authority conducts routine inspections of fuel stations to ensure that consumers receive the quantity of petroleum products for which they pay.
Myers made the disclosure Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia.
According to him, LiSA inspects and verifies fuel pumps every six months as part of its measurement-control process.
According to him, the exercise is intended to ensure that dispensing equipment remains accurate and that consumers are not shortchanged at the pump.
He said, LiSA’s metrologists routinely examine fuel-dispensing equipment and conduct measurement verification to determine whether pumps are operating within approved standards.
Myers urged motorists and other consumers to remain vigilant when purchasing gasoline and other petroleum products, particularly amid rising prices that have increased public concern over the cost and quantity of fuel being sold.
He emphasized that the authority’s inspection program is designed to protect consumers by ensuring fairness and accuracy in commercial transactions involving petroleum products.
LiSA’s measurement-verification role forms part of the government’s broader responsibility to safeguard consumers and promote confidence in the marketplace, particularly in sectors where price increases can place additional pressure on household and business budgets.
The authority is expected to maintain its periodic inspections of fuel stations while encouraging consumers to report suspected irregularities through the appropriate channels.
Meanwhile, as fuel prices continue to command public attention, the accuracy of dispensing pumps remains a critical issue for motorists seeking to ensure that every purchase delivers the quantity displayed and paid for.
