Education Ministry Seeks Global Support

MONROVIA: The Ministry of Education is intensifying efforts to mobilize international financial and technical support for Liberia’s education sector, following a series of high-level engagements with development partners and other stakeholders in New York during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The engagements brought together ministry officials and representatives of international foundations, development organizations, educational institutions, private-sector entities and members of the Liberian diaspora to explore opportunities for strengthening the country’s education system.
Discussions centered on key areas identified as critical to improving access, quality and learning outcomes, including foundational learning, teacher development, girls’ education, inclusive education, school infrastructure, school feeding and technical and vocational education and training.
The ministry also highlighted education technology, monitoring and supervision, and broader efforts to expand equitable access to quality education.
During the meetings, Liberian officials outlined ongoing education reforms and identified areas requiring additional financial resources, technical expertise and institutional partnerships.
The engagements also sought to connect prospective partners with education programs and initiatives already being implemented in Liberia, with emphasis on ensuring that external assistance complements national priorities and produces measurable benefits for schools, teachers and learners.
The discussions further provided an avenue for Liberia to exchange experiences with international stakeholders and examine approaches that could inform the country’s continuing education reforms.
According to the ministry, follow-up discussions will focus on financing, technical cooperation, institutional partnerships and other forms of support needed to strengthen the sector.
It emphasized that international cooperation must be aligned with Liberia’s national education priorities and translated into practical interventions capable of improving teaching, learning and educational access.
Meanwhile, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships to advance ongoing reforms and improve education outcomes for children, young people and communities across Liberia.
