MONROVIA: The Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Peace Education says true peace is not merely the absence of war, but the deliberate choice to choose understanding over violence every single day.
Dr. Mainlehwon Ebenezer Vonhm said for the past seventeen years, the Center for Peace Education has witnessed tremendous success, planting seeds of peace across war-affected communities in Liberia.
Dr. Vonhm said in a society bearing the deep scars of past conflict, the Center for Peace Education mission is to imbue the youth of Liberia with the vital skills, constructive attitudes and moral knowledge needed to reject violence and embrace dialogue.
"Over these past months, our students have lived these values, yes indeed, learning that mediation builds bridges, that negotiation seeks win-win solutions and that active nonviolence requires the immense courage to hate injustice while honoring human life."
The Center for Peace Education Executive Director said young people of Liberia are essential building blocks for sustainable peace in Liberia today.
He said, "When we equip a child to resolve conflict with an empathetic heart and a handshake rather than an insult or a clenched fist, we secure the future of our entire nation. "
Dr. Vonhm urged parents and leaders of Liberia to recommit to nurturing the young peacemakers and building a Liberia founded on justice, reconciliation, and lasting harmony for all!
His message was delivered by Center for Peace Education Technical Director, Mr. John T. Cooper, on Monday, September 21, 2026 at program commemorating Day of International Peace held in Moulton Corner, Brewerville, Liberia.
The program was held under the Theme: "Justice through understanding: Building Bridges, Healing Liberia."
Before the indoor program of the Day of International Peace, students, parents and teachers paraded the principal streets of Brewerville outside Monrovia.
During the indoor program, students who were taught Peace, recited recitation and poems. Others performed drama and said the CPE peace pledged.
At the program, Martha Quictal and Franklin Natt were selected as winners of the VON-VON scholarship award for 2026-2027 school year.
In appreciation, student Martha Quictal thanked the founder and Executive Director of the Center for Peace Education, Dr. Mainlehwon Ebenezer Vonhm for relieving their parents from the stress of school fees.
She called on her colleagues who were not lucky to have been selected this time to have the hope for next school year.
