LRA Hails Media as Key Partner in Liberia’s Revenue Mobilization Drive

MONROVIA: The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has hailed the Liberian media as a key partner in strengthening domestic revenue mobilization, citing its important role in taxpayer education, transparency, accountability, and public awareness.

LRA Acting Communications Manager Jerry Laynumah Siakor made the remarks on behalf of the Authority at the Press Union of Liberia’s (PUL) 62nd anniversary celebration in Monrovia.

Mr. Siakor congratulated the PUL on more than six decades of service to Liberia, describing the media as an essential pillar of democracy that informs the public, promotes accountability, and provides citizens with platforms to participate meaningfully in national development.

He noted that effective revenue mobilization requires an informed and engaged public that understands the importance of taxation, compliance requirements, and the role domestic revenue plays in financing national development and improving public services across all sectors of society.

According to Mr. Siakor, radio, television, newspapers, community outreach platforms, and digital media remain vital channels for making tax information more accessible and understandable to the public.

He said the media can help simplify complex tax information, counter misinformation, encourage voluntary compliance, and strengthen communication between taxpayers and the Revenue Authority.

“As Liberia strives toward greater self-reliance, we encourage the media to continue helping us build a culture where paying legitimate taxes is understood not merely as an obligation but as a civic contribution to building the Liberia we all desire,” Mr. Siakor said.

He called for deeper LRA-media engagement to expand taxpayer education and public awareness across the country.

“At the LRA, we recognize the media as an important partner in domestic revenue mobilization. Through accurate reporting, public education, and constructive engagement, the media helps citizens understand the importance of taxation and how tax revenues contribute to national development. Working together, we can build greater public trust and foster a stronger culture of voluntary tax compliance,” Mr. Siakor said.

The anniversary celebration, held under the theme “Empowering Independent Media for Democracy, Accountability, and Sustainable Development,” brought together media practitioners, representatives of public and private sector institutions, and other key stakeholders.
