Liberia Retains Key IMSO Maritime Seat -Reaffirms Global Maritime Leadership

LONDON: Liberia has retained its seat on the Advisory Committee of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), reinforcing the country’s role in international maritime governance and its commitment to global maritime safety, security, and reliable satellite communications.

The Liberia Permanent Mission to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced the development in a press statement issued Tuesday, following confirmation of the country’s appointment during the Africa Region’s meeting at the 30th Session of the IMSO Assembly in London.

According to the statement, Liberia also had the distinction of leading discussions of the Africa Group during the meeting, further highlighting its engagement in regional and international maritime affairs.

The renewed appointment will enable Liberia to continue contributing to policy deliberations and institutional oversight aimed at strengthening maritime satellite communication services, particularly those essential to the safety of life at sea.

The IMSO plays an important role in overseeing satellite communication services that support maritime safety and related international obligations.

Liberia’s continued representation on its Advisory Committee provides an opportunity to participate in discussions affecting the effectiveness and reliability of these critical services.

Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the IMO, Ambassador Robert Wilmot Kpadeh, welcomed the renewed appointment, describing it as an affirmation of the country’s active participation, leadership, and growing influence in global maritime affairs.

“Liberia remains firmly committed to promoting a safe, secure, efficient, and sustainable global maritime industry,” Ambassador Kpadeh stated.

The retention of the seat underscores Liberia’s continued engagement in international maritime institutions and its commitment to supporting initiatives that advance maritime safety, security, and sustainable development.
