MONROVIA: The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), will host an international delegation from the Kimberly Process in March, this year, (2026).
In preparation for this important and historic engagement, the Ministry has held talks with an advanced team from the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS).
The monthly KP Meeting held at the Ministry’s central office in Monrovia, brought together key stakeholders in Liberia’s diamond and mineral governance sector to review progress, strengthen coordination, and advance national compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS).
During the meeting, Deputy Mines and Energy Minister for Planning, Research, and Development, Fahnseth B. Mulbah, emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration, institutional coordination, and consistent engagement among stakeholders in safeguarding Liberia’s diamond sector.
He noted that the Kimberley Process remains central to ensuring transparency, accountability, and credibility in the country’s mineral trade.
Delivering special remarks, the Minister of Mines and Energy, R. Matenokay Tingban, reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening mineral sector governance and ensuring that Liberia’s diamonds and precious minerals contribute meaningfully to national development rather than illicit activities.
Minister Tingban highlighted the strategic importance of the Kimberley Process in protecting Liberia’s international standing, promoting responsible mining, and preventing conflict diamonds, smuggling, and illicit financial flows.
The Mines and Energy Minister then called on all institutions involved in KP implementation to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and collective responsibility in carrying out their respective mandates.
Participants of the high-level gathering received updates from the last National KP meeting through a presentation by Database Operator, Madam Joyce Cummings.
She provided a review of action points, data management processes, and progress made in strengthening reporting and documentation systems. Her presentation underscored the importance of accurate data collection, digital recordkeeping, and institutional coordination in supporting effective implementation of the KPCS.
Further updates on Kimberley Process activities in Liberia were delivered by the Director of the Office of Precious Minerals of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Madam. Rebecca Kumba Fallah, who briefed stakeholders on ongoing national preparations and upcoming international engagements.
In her statement, she placed focus on the scheduled Kimberley Process Review Visit to Liberia in March 2026. Director Fallah emphasized that the review visit represents a critical opportunity for Liberia to demonstrate compliance, institutional readiness, and progress made in strengthening systems for traceability, certification, and regulatory oversight within the diamond sector.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency cooperation, improving operational efficiency, enhancing data integrity, and reinforcing community-level engagement to prevent smuggling and illegal mineral trading.
Stakeholders also highlighted the need for sustained capacity building, public awareness, and institutional reforms to ensure long-term compliance with international standards.
The meeting concluded with closing remarks from Emmanuel Vaye, Assistant Minister for Planning, Research, and Development at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
Assistant Minister Vaye commended participants for their commitment and constructive engagements. He encouraged continued collaboration among all stakeholders and reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to strengthening Liberia’s Kimberley Process implementation framework.
The National Kimberley Process Monthly Meeting forms an integral part of Liberia’s broader national strategy to promote responsible mineral governance, protect the integrity of its diamond sector, and ensurse that the country’s natural resources are managed transparently and sustainably for the benefit of all Liberians.
