AML Certifies 22 Employees As Trainers -Expands Workforce Leadership Training

BUCHANAN: ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has certified 22 employees following a week-long Train-the-Facilitator programme in Buchanan, strengthening its capacity to deliver leadership training internally across its mining and logistics operations.

The initiative marks a shift toward an employee-led training model designed to equip frontline supervisors with practical leadership, safety and management skills while supporting improved workplace performance and the company’s long-term operational objectives.

The newly certified facilitators are expected to take responsibility for delivering AML’s Shopfloor Programme, extending access to structured workplace learning and reducing the company’s long-term reliance on external trainers.

The programme centers on two frameworks: the 3D Shopfloor Enhancement Programme, which focuses on driving results, developing people and doing things right, including workplace safety; and the 4D Shopfloor Management Programme, which introduces the Delivering Value approach for supervisors with broader management responsibilities.

The training was conducted in two stages. Thirteen Human Resources staff members participated in the first week, while nine additional employees—identified as potential trainers based on their performance in previous training cohorts—joined the second week for a combined session.

Together, the 22 participants were prepared to deliver the curriculum to colleagues across AML’s operations.

The certification builds on a programme rollout that began with a pilot in September 2025. Between November 2025 and September 2026, AML conducted 13 training cohorts in Yekepa and Buchanan, reaching more than 400 employees in partnership with Kenya-based Lantern Training.

Throughout the rollout, participants were encouraged to apply the lessons learned during workshops to their daily responsibilities. The programme has supported improvements in cross-team communication, daily work planning, conflict management and proactive safety leadership, helping supervisors strengthen coordination and decision-making at their respective work sites.
To ensure consistent delivery, AML has developed a dedicated Train-the-Facilitator Guide containing instructional frameworks, practical activities and detailed delivery notes.
It provides a structured approach to training while allowing facilitators to incorporate their operational experience and practical knowledge into the sessions.

By developing an internal pool of qualified facilitators, AML is strengthening the capacity of Liberian employees to lead workplace learning and transfer practical management skills to their colleagues.

The approach is also expected to make leadership development more accessible as the company’s operations expand.

The initiative forms part of AML’s broader investment in workforce development, with particular emphasis on strengthening the capabilities of frontline supervisors to manage teams effectively, uphold safety standards and improve operational performance.

Through continued training and internal knowledge-sharing, the company aims to foster a stronger leadership culture that supports employee development and the long-term growth of its Liberian operations.
